Built in 1910
9 rooms, 36 guests
Hrabětice, Janov nad Nisou
The Chata u Skota building has a long history. It was built in 1910 and functioned as a glass grinding plant until 1972. The building was then used as private accomodation before being converted to a guesthouse in 1992.
There is a small stream that flows under the Chata that powered the machinary in the glass grinding plant. The turbine and and drive are on display in the dining room to this day.
It was known as ‘Pension pod Vlekem’ for many years due to its proximity to the Severak ski resort.

The Jizera Mountains and their surroundings are famous for their well-marked hiking trails, whose history dates back to 1884, when the German Mountain Association for the Ještěd and Jizera Mountains was founded in Liberec. The most popular tourist resorts include the top of Smědava (847 m above sea level) and the settlements of Jizerka and Nová Louka.
Since the 1880s, local hiking enthusiasts have been building viewpoints and lookout towers in the surroundings of the Jizera Mountains.
The Jizera Mountains are increasingly popular with cyclists. There are dozens of cycle routes located near the Chata U Skota
The Jizera Mountains offer sports activities for climbers. The rocks offer climbs exclusively on rough and sharp granite, but most of them are equipped with stable belays.
Eva and Fraser took over the Pension Pod Vlekem in January 2023 and immediately renamed it ‘U Skota’, mainly because the previous name, Pension Pod Vlekem was a little misleading (the nearest lift is 400m away, and it doesn’t operate all season!) Also, of course, because Fraser is originally from Scotland, but has lived in the Czech Republic since moving to Jablonec in 1995.
They have known the property as neighbours for many years, having a cottage across the road. Their children have grown up spending weekends and holidays in the area. They learned to ski here, they explore the forests and invite their friends here.
They are delighted to extend a warm welcome to all families looking to enjoy the beautiful Jizerske mountains.
